Brian Cant was an English actor, television presenter, voice-over artist, writer and entertainer. He is best known for his works in BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) television programmes including Play School and Dappledown Farm. He was born on July 12, 1933, in Ipswich, Suffolk, England, and passed away at age 83 on June 20, 2017.
His most notable works can be found in some movies and Television show like Doctor Who (1965-68), Dixon of Dock Green (1966-69), ITV Play of the Week (1964-67) and Legend of Death (1965) where he played Tensa/Kent Gantry, Bill/Dewar/Hayward, PC Austin/Raglan and Arnold respectively.
Brian Cant was educated at Northgate Grammar School for Boys, a state grammar school, which is now known as Northgate High School. Cant was into sports and so he trained with Ipswich Town Football Club’ Youth Team when he was young.
At the start of his career, Brian worked as a printer and only tried his hand at acting in the late 1950s. He started working in BBC Schools drama television programmes about the Romans as a performer and later auditioned for Play School and his audition was taken by Joy Whitby, the programme creator and the first producer of the series. He then worked for Gordon Murray puppet series: Camberwick Green (1966), Trumpton (1967) and Chigley (1969).
Brian Cant went on to co-host TV programs including Play Away (1971-84) and Bric-a-Brac (1980-82). He has since worked in various films and television series.
