Derek Griffiths MBE is a British singer, actor, entertainer, comedian ,and voice over artist known for his works in popular British children’s television series including Heads and Tails, and Play School from the 1960s to the present day. He was born on 15th July 1946 in Woking, Surrey, England. He is 76 year old as of 2022. He was brought up and educated in the United Kingdom.
He has worked in numerous TV series and feature films. Derek is most famous for his works as Vervain/Chervil in Watership Down (1978), Gerry Ungulates in Fierce Creatures (1997), Pusweasel in The Bleak Old Shop of Stuff (2012) and Mosca in Gallowwalkers (2012).
Derek started his career as an entertainer in the 1960s. He began with his appearances alongside artists like Chloe Ashcroft, Johnny Ball ,and Brian Cant in Play School. He worked for the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) Television for many years. Multitalented as he was, Derek could sing and play multiple musical instruments as well. He sang and played the theme tune to the cartoon Bod (1975). Known for his versatility as an actor, he played the entire staff of a cinema (the manager, the commissionaire, the projectionist, the usherette ,and himself) in the Granada Television’s series Film Fun (early 1980s). Griffiths is also known for playing Ko-Ko in The Black Mikado at London’s Cambridge Theatre. SuperTed, the protagonist of the animated series with the same name, was voiced in English by Griffiths.
