When a video showing Reena Thakur and the young leader Upen Pandit indulging in pleasurable activities went viral on social media, it put an end to her career and she had to face an intense backlash caused by the content of the video. To add to the already hyped up reaction of the public and the other leaders of the BJP, a 13 minute-long audio file of the conversation between Upen Pandit’s wife and Reena Thakur also caught the attention of the police where the two talks about the scandalous relationship Upen and Reena were carrying on with, despite the knowledge of Mrs.Pandit, Upen’s wife. In the conversation, Reena admits to making the viral video herself, using her own phone. This further became proof that Reena did have an extra-marital affair with Upen Pandit.
